UPSC SCRA Examination Details: Eligibility Criteria, Application Process, SCRA Salary

The Special Class Railway Apprentice(SCRA) exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on behalf of the Indian Railways to recruit candidates into the special class apprentice (Mechanical department) of Indian Railways. The eligibility criteria to apply for this exam is to pass the 12th standard with a first or a second class with mathematics and physics as equivalent subjects. The candidates selected are provided training by the railway department without any cost. The candidate who complete all the four years of apprenticeship successfully, are offered a BE degree (Bachelor of Engineering) in Mechanical engineering and are recruited as Group A officers in the Indian Railways. UPSC is a central body for conducting authorized examinations for civil services in India. Aspiring candidates willing to be recruited by the Central Government should appear for this examination.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Applicants must 12 th standard from a recognized board or university
  • Applicants must have passed 12 th with minimum second division
  • Candidates must have Mathematics along with Physics/ Chemistry as a compulsory subject
  • Age limit is 17- 21 years
  • Candidates must pass the first year of the 3 years degree course with a minimum second division

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

The applicant needs to fill out the application form from the official website as mentioned in the above table. The applicant will thereby be directed to the homepage where he/she would need to click on the “UPSC SCRA Registration form” tab. There he/she will have to fill out the form with the
required details. The form fill-up is divided into 2 parts:


Part 1 – consists of
a) Personal Information
b) Education Qualification and
c) Address

Part 2 – consists of
a) UPSC SCRA application fee payment,
b) Selection
of UPSC SCRA examination center and
c) uploading Photograph and signature (by scanning)

PROCEDURE OF APPLICATION FEE PAYMENT

Both online and offline payment options are available for the applicants. The online payment can be done by any of the online payment options such as Net Banking/Credit card/Debit card. The offline payment can be done by submission of the bank challan. The application fee for General/ OBC candidates is Rupees 100 and is free for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PWD/Female Categories.

The examination is conducted offline; i.e., pen and paper. The candidates are recruited according to the vacancies available in that particular year. For example, the vacancies available for the current year is 42.

UPSC SCRA Salary

UPSC SCRA are offered a pay scale (Salary) between rupees 9000 to rupees13000 (as per the post).
