A pilot or an aviator is a person who uses his technical skills to control flights and air crafts for different purposes. Pilot fly fixed wing aircraft or flights to provide transportation to peoples and cargo. It is also known as pilot, aviator, computer pilot, aircraft pilot, airline pilot. Being a pilot you can enjoy a luxurious life. You also have the opportunity to travel the world. Pilots and highly trained and experienced professionals who can fly any type of aircrafts.

Eligibility Criteria For Pilot :

The job of a pilot is not so easy. It requires high knowledge of air navigation, interpretation of meteorological reports, operating sophisticated electronic and mechanical controls, leading the aircraft under adverse circumstances, and being a leader to the flight crew and passengers under climatic and other emergency situations. The basic requirements study for being a pilot are listed below :

  • You must have aggregated 50% in your 12th exams in maths, physics and chemistry.
  • You must be 16years old to be eligible for student pilot licence, 17 years old to be eligible for private pilot licence and 18 years old to be eligible for commercial pilot licence.
  • Your vision in one eye must be perfect.
  • General physical fitness is mandatory. You must be disease free and healthy.

Broadly, there are two routes that enable one to pursue aviation as a career.

Route 1: Civil Aviation (Non-Military Aviation/ Commercial Pilot).
Route 2: Indian Defence Forces (Air Force)

Route 1: Civil Aviation / Commercial Pilot :

A commercial pilot is a pilot who flies a special kind of plane and holds the certificate of a commercial pilot from authority. The authority is DGCA , Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
Being a commercial pilot is a very big responsibility in it’s own.

  • Subject Requirements :
    If you want to pursue your career as a pilot, first, you have to study physics, chemistry and maths as compulsory subjects. If you have the subject as a compulsory subjects,then you can study these subject in National Institute of open schooling and can start your trainings.

Entrance exam :
The candidate must have scored 50% in his 10 + 2 class to join flying School. There is a set of entrance procedure which includes written test, medical examination and an interview.

To become a commercial pilot in India you have to follow some steps .The steps are listed below :

Step 1 : Firstly , enroll yourself in a flying school for your trainings and pursue BSc in aviation for the knowledge of aircrafts. Their admission process will consist of an written examination, an aptitude test and interview and medical examination.

Step 2 : You have to apply for student pilot licence. You have to appear for entrance examination for this. It will be a oral test conducted by a chief instructor at the school or a DGCA representative. Once you get the licence you are eligible for your flying training . When you have completed your course, you should complete your flying training minimum of 250 hours also.

Route 2 : Indian Defence Force (Air Force) :

If flying the plane is your passion but you are not so eligible that you can spend so much money, then for them, Air Force is the best option. Here you can get your training free of cost as well as you can serve your Nation too.

Air Force pilot after 12th class :

  • NDA entry for air Force :
    NDA is the first opportunity which will provide wings to your dream of becoming a aviator. Candidates selected under this entry are trained for 3 years by NDA. After the completion , The candidate is posted as a Pilot at Air Force station.

Air Force Pilot After Graduation :

  • CDSE for air Force :
    Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) is for people who want to join Indian Air Force after graduation. The selected candidates are sent for training at the Air Force Academy, Hyderabad, wherein they undergo Pre-Flying Training School. Post Completion of the training, the commissioned officers are assigned their flying units.
  • AFCAT for air Force :
    This is a short service. Under this entry , The candidate cannot serve Indian Air Force more than 14 years. For joining the branch , the candidate should qualify the exam of AFCAT (Air Force common admission test) . After the selection the candidates are sent for the training of 74 weeks.
  • NCC for air Force :
    If you were a part of your school NCC society and are an Air Wing Senior Division ā€˜Cā€™ Certificate holder, then you can join the Air Force (Flying Branch) through the Directorate General National Cadet Corps or through your respective NCC.
